Northern Prosthetics & Orthotics is committed to providing state-of-the-art care and the “perfect fit” guarantee to all of our patients in both Aroostook County and New Brunswick, Canada in a compassionate and timely manner.

Northern Prosthetics & Orthotics is happy to announce that we are the only facility north of Bangor certified in providing Genium microprocessor technology to the patients of northern Maine.  Recently, staff prosthetist Cory LaPlante became certified in the evaluation and fitting of Genium knee units by OttoBock. This was an extensive training course in providing proper alignment and use of software applications for this state-of-the-art prosthesis. With the Genium, a small microprocessor within the knee unit of this technology allows the patient to walk up stairs step over step, cross obstacles more smoothly, walk backwards, forwards, change directions, stand more easily, sit more naturally, and the unit is also water resistant. The Genium system allows every step to be smooth and secure.  This in turn allows for unprecedented functionality for above knee amputees. The Genium microprocessor prosthetic leg is quite simply the closest technology has come to natural walking. If you believe that either you or someone you know could benefit from this technology, give our office a call for a free consultation. Or visit: http://www.ottobockus.com for more information regarding the Genium above-knee prosthesis.

Northern Prosthetics was established in 2007 by Aroostook County native Cory Laplante.  The vision of Northern Prosthetics is to provide the best quality prosthetic/orthotic care in the state.  Because quality of care and patient satisfaction are our priorities, we develop a rehabilitation team consisting of the prescribing physician, prosthetist/orthotist, physical therapist, and most importantly, the patient.  In order to ensure the best functional outcome for our patients, we incorporate the expertise of all clinicians while addressing the concerns and opinions of the patient, treating not just the deficiency or dysfunction, but the patient as a whole.  It is our hope that anyone in need of prosthetic or orthotic services, or any of the vast orthopedic appliances that we provide here at Northern Prosthetics, would consider our services not only for the convenience, but for the overall experience.

Northern Prosthetics & Orthotics became incorporated in 2007 and opened its doors on North Street in Presque Isle with one provider/owner, Cory LaPlante, CP.  Since the opening of Northern Prosthetics & Orthotics, the volume of patients has increased dramatically, necessitating a larger facility. Our new facility at 117 Academy Street in Presque Isle tripled the square footage of our old facility.  As the need for additional space became apparent, so did the need for additional staff, and in addition to Cory LaPlante, CP, Northern Prosthetics & Orthotics now employs Wade Bonneson, CPO, Jackie Dempsey, CPO, Joanna Newlands, LPN CF-M CLT, Laura MacFarline, Office Manager, Kristina Theriault, Receptionist,  Andrew Cole, Lab Manager, and Rick Carson, Billing Specialist. Though our location has changed, our commitment to our patients remains constant.  One of the primary goals of the staff at Northern Prosthetics & Orthotics is to ensure that patient satisfaction is achieved. We make it a priority to respond to our patients compassionately and to deliver products and services in a timely manner.

Northern Prosthetics and Orthotics is the premier prosthetics and orthotics facility north of Bangor with ABC Board Certified Practitioners. At Northern Prosthetics and Orthotics, we specialize in both upper and lower extremity prosthetics as well as all orthotic devices including Foot Orthotics (FO’s), Ankle Foot Orthoses (AFO), Knee Ankle Foot Orthoses (KAFO), Thoraco-Lumbo-Sacral Orthoses (TLSO), Cervical Orthoses, and Mastectomy and Lymphedema fittings and supplies. Northern Prosthetics and Orthotics has the ability to fabricate all prosthetic and orthotic devices, as well as make any modifications needed, in-house, by the practitioner who performed the evaluation.

What does this mean for the patient?

1. The total process for providing a new device takes a few weeks instead of several months.

2. Because we have four practitioners, all modifications can be addressed immediately, any day of the week.

3. Ultimately, it means that the patient is provided with better quality care in a much more timely fashion.

4. This in turn results in faster rehabilitation and an overall improved quality of life.
