These orthoses are what most people consider “orthotics”. They may be designed to correct and/or support the foot with a flexible deformity (such as flat feet) as well provide cushioning and protection for the foot that has a loss of sensation. “Functional orthotics” directly corrects the heel into proper alignment and supports the arches, therefore indirectly aligning the rest of the leg to include the knee and even the hip. “Accommodative orthotics” doesn’t do any correction but do provide arch support, cushioning, and protection. Foot orthotics fit into the person’s shoes and does their best when the shoes are not broken down and worn.
